Art is my salvation! And it can be yours too!

Updated: Apr 30, 2023

I am naturally an introvert raised in a typical Bengali household where Baba was very strict and Maa used to pamper. I live with my mother and brother in Kolkata. As a kid, I was a chronic bookworm and remember being ratted out by my brother and scolded by my parents for reading novels and comics hidden under textbooks just before exams.

Being an introvert, expressing my emotions and feelings verbally has always been a difficult thing to do. My art comes as my salvation, about expressing my emotions when nothing was right, and my art saved me. I paint till my soul lies bare on paper. I like to illustrate my city, all things that define the essence of Bangaliyana, and about love, in all its rainbow glory.

When I started @aru.nisha, it was a personal account with nothing to do with art. Instagram was just a medium to share my expression and story. I started getting appreciation and simultaneously started getting hooked to the inks, colours and brushes in my college days. I remember discovering the doodles of Kerby Rosanes and being absolutely awestruck. That was when I started drawing, and I haven't stopped. I wanted to venture into digital illustration and have my own studio someday. I want Aru Nisha to be a platform where stories are told about love, friendship, and the city of Kolkata.

There are so many potential talents in all genres, led and run by women, that only need the minimum push and exposure to fly high in the sky. I think starting is important if you have an asset or skill and want to share it with people. You shouldn’t think about the pros and cons of the success-failure. It’s essential to take the first steps. Nothing can stop you if you are passionate about what you do and genuine in reaching out to people.

Doesn’t Aru’s story give all budding artists hope? Share it now with someone

who needs to read it.

Delhi Stories is an emerging platform to feature inspirational, motivational, relatable and beautiful stories. Do you also have an inspiring story like Aru?
