For us, skating is not just a hobby but a lifestyle.

Friendship isn’t just about the pals you meet in school or college. Of course, the beauty of these friendships is unmatchable. But sometimes, you get lucky to find a friend’s tribe outside the educational institutions. And I’m among the most fortunate to find an amazing group outside the Delhi Metro!

Hi! Sachin Sharma here. I am originally from Kangra, Himachal Pradesh. Due to my father's job at Oberoi, we often travelled outside India. For my education, we settled in Delhi. Initially, I was a sportsperson, but my love for music led me to join Gandharva Mahavidyalaya while also pursuing B.com at SGND Khalsa College, Delhi University.

During college, I made a dear friend, Aakash Singh, a talented guitarist who shared my passion for music. We spent a lot of time together, travelling to learn, explore, and perform. We found traditional vehicles limiting our explorations, so we decided to buy skateboards and started exploring Delhi and other places on them.

My college was located in ITO, close to Mandi House, where prominent art-related institutions like the National School of Drama, Shri Ram Bharatiya Kala Kendra, and Sangeet Bharti were located. I observed many artists practising their crafts on Safdar Hashmi Street, and I was drawn to the vibrant atmosphere. So, Aakash and I began skating in that area.

After a while, Aakash moved to Israel, but I continued my passion for skating in Delhi with the two skateboards we had. I started teaching skateboarding to other artists in the area, and gradually more people joined. It was gratifying to see how I could inspire others.

As our skateboarding community grew, we named ourselves Mandi Monkeys and now have over two hundred members. We skate daily and train underprivileged kids and Yulu recovery workers, providing them with skateboards. Recently, we collaborated with Ajio and Rohit Shetty to uplift artists and promote street culture in India. If this interests you, we welcome you to join us for an exhilarating experience.

For us, skating is not just a hobby but a lifestyle. We use it as a medium to promote art and culture among those even remotely interested. Our vision is to bring together people from diverse art forms, celebrating the emotions that each piece of art brings. Skating serves as a bridge connecting individuals from different backgrounds, forming a creative circle.

On a personal level, I have experimented with therapy music and conducted sessions for autistic children as part of music therapy. It brings me joy to use my passion for music to impact others' lives positively.

There is beauty in being around a tribe passionate about some kind of art. I hope everyone experiences it!

We wish more and more aspiring artist join this amazing community Mandi Monkeys.
