From Computer Science to Cinematic Artistry: A Filmmaker's Journey Unveiled in 'Vikram' - Celebrating the Beauty in the Ordinary.

Updated: Jan 25, 2024

Since childhood, I have been fascinated by films - the sets, shoots, cameras, and things around it. Deep down, I knew my future lay in the industry. When I discussed this with my parents, they were supportive but emphasized the need for education. Consequently, I pursued Computer Science Engineering at the Jaypee Institute of Information Technology in Noida.

In the fourth year, I enrolled in the ‘Weekend Film-making’ course at Barry John Acting Studio, Delhi, to learn the fundamentals of film-making.

Upon arriving in Mumbai in 2019, I contemplated joining ‘Whistling Woods,’ but the fees were quite expensive for me, and mujhe industry mein kuch karna tha. So I opted for the Institute of Creative Excellence, and completed a Diploma in Direction, with Sushil Sir (faculty) playing an important role in guiding my artistic aspirations.

After the course concluded, COVID-19 forced my return to my hometown. This period was frustrating, as I had theoretical knowledge but lacked practical experience. In a conversation with Sushil Sir, he advised, ‘Phone uthao aur shoot karo. Kuch bhi shoot karo aur khud se edit karo.’ It worked! I started shooting with my best friends in Lucknow and secured an ad with the Helo App. In October, I participated in a contest by Zomato. I didn’t win it, but was featured on Zomato’s page among the top 10 contestants. It meant a lot!

By the end of 2020, I returned to Mumbai, embarking on a career as an Assistant Director across various formats- Feature Films, Short Films, Advertisements, and Corporate Films. These experiences helped me with networking and learning. I also got the opportunity to be an Assistant Director in Liger.

Throughout the course of me working as an Assistant Director, I continued creating short films to apply my skills. Vikram, is a creative outcome of such a project, which delves into the poetic relationship between a man and his auto. As an independent filmmaker, having Gopal Sir as the actor and Virendra Sir as the narrator holds great significance for me. The movie is now available on Humara Movie. I encourage you to watch it, as it celebrates the meaningful connections formed with the objects around us. You're bound to relate with the film as it reflects the beauty in the ordinary and highlights the impact of companionship.

We’re glad to partner with Humara Movie. They release a short film every week. And we feature the story of someone behind the film. After all, everyone has a story.
