Being a Bombay boy, I had early exposure to films. They were my escape from reality - of the old-school society, I grew up in, which revolve around the same people and ideologies. I have bunked school for the films.
Gosh!! I still have those tickets.
When I went to college, it felt like another fantasy land. Some students came from international boards, where commerce was one of the subjects from the 8th grade. One such student left the college in the middle of the session, which left the college with one vacant seat. Suneeth got admission to that seat.
He was also a movie buff like me - we became friends. He showed me the poster of the movie he made – where the guy comes to reality from his dreams. He named it ‘DECEPTION’, the opposite of ‘INCEPTION’. I asked him to show the movie but he said “Film was with his elder brother staying far away.”
One day he narrated the story of Future Drugs. I didn’t understand the story but since I was acting in it, I was all in. We discussed the idea with our friends, Kaustubh Savi and Amit joined us. So, four 15 years old junior college students tried to shoot a movie on Digi Cam. We failed, but I learnt something new.
We tried but failed again. So during vacation, we decided to explore the films. And I remember that more than the film, I enjoyed watching BTS.
After a few months of exploration and preparation, on 11/11/11, we started the shooting again. I remember the date vividly, as Imtiaz Ali’s Rockstar was released on the same day. We finished the shooting in 3 days but had no idea about the post-production then. We found an editor who charged Rs. 5000/ - we both contributed. And that’s how we completed our film.
Suneeth insisted and wanted me to learn to editing so we could save money on our next movie. Learning editing was costly, so I learnt it from YouTube.
Suneeth's parents didn’t welcome his decision to learn films. So he choose commerce and I went on to study Mass Media with whatever little I learned from FD and editing from YouTube, I participated in festivals during college and went on to win some awards.
In my final year of college. I landed an opportunity to work at Suresh Menon‘s company as an editor and enhanced my skills.
I’ve been part of the industry since then. My journey had many ups and downs, but I’ve tried to put out stories that might inspire someone. Now I run PostBoy Studios, where we do everything from filmmaking to post-production.
My first pro short film, ‘Mai Kal Marega,’ which is a dark comedy film about a guy who is committing suicide but suddenly gets a Tinder match. What happens with him the whole night is something I better leave you to know by watching the film.
Watch it on HumaraMovie's Youtube channel. I’ve deliberately released it on YouTube to make it accessible to all. It has been a great experience working with everyone involved in making this move live. I hope you’ll love it!
We’re glad to partner with Humara Movie. They release a film every week. And we feature story of someone behind the film. After all, everyone has a story.
