I’m still a college dropout!

After 12th, I joined Engineering. But wo maine third semester me chod di because I wanted to pursue filmmaking. Thanks to my college mate and roommate, Varun. He used to listen to all my shit stuff about movies patiently and convey his thoughts about them. It gave me the much-needed initial boost to pursue filmmaking.

But it didn't go well with my parents. They wanted me to try to play safe with a stable job. They enjoyed watching movies and listening to music. But making a career in the field was hard to digest for them as it was an unconventional profession. We had a settled business, so my parents agreed. Sach batau to, they thought, ‘3-4 saal struggle karega fir family business join kr lega. But I'm glad it didn’t happen. And I’m still a college dropout.

I did a three month course and moved to Mumbai. Mumbai was excruciating and exciting. I started with shooting behind the scenes. There was no payment. But it allowed me to explore and narrow down the direction.

I realised it when I was working on an ad project. I was supposed to be the ad’s director. Maine hafte-dus din bhohot mehnat ki project pe. But the producer came and took control of everything. I got the credit for direction, but it was just for the sake of it. The project made me realise that I want complete control over my job as a director.

I worked as an AD with Rajan Khosa sir in a company. Everyone in the company was strange. Like they felt, ‘Agr tum Khan ya Kapoor nahi ho to film industry me tumhara kuch nahi ho sakta hai.’ It used to sound cliche. But Rajan sir was different. We discussed filmmaking extensively, and he supported me a lot.

My wife, Suman, has been an excellent support for me. We got married a year ago. Unlike my entire family, she has a unique perspective towards art. So, we get along better in terms of my profession too! And I’m glad to have a life partner with a deep interest in the creative field.

My recent movie is titled, ‘Chandrashekhar Maadhav Rao’. I know the movie title is a bit long. But the real catch of the film is in the title. It’s about bullying. You know, ‘People bully people out of anything and everything.’ Growing up, unknowingly, I’ve also been a victim of bullying. So when Debabrat Samal, the movie writer, discussed the topic, we agreed to make a film about it.

After the second lockdown, we brainstormed the movie's idea and script for 7-8 hours daily. It was a crazy time. We didn’t have any projects then, so we devoted much time to the movie. After two years, I’m glad the film has been released on HumaraMovie’s YouTube channel. Watch it, and let me know your thoughts about the movie and bullying too!

We’re glad to partner with Humara Movie. They release a film every week. And we feature the story of someone behind the film. After all, everyone has a story.
