I’ve filed 551 RTIs in a day.

I’ve filed 551 RTIs in a day in Nagar Nigam, Raipur. Yes, you read it right. Not 51. Not 151. But 551 RTIs. And that too in a day. You can call me mad. But I feel it’s just about taking a logical step towards solving the problems of our society.

I notice a lot of people cribbing about the issues around us. Let me tell you, sirf 10 rupay ki RTI se bohot saare samasyaon ka samadhan ho sakta hai. You just need to use the Act to solve the administrative irregularities around us.

For me, it started in 2005; the year, RTI Act was introduced in India. I filed an RTI regarding the sanitisation of the Sadak and Nala. And it solved the problem. Since then, I’ve been continuously using it to raise my voice against the corruption in our society. Ab logo ki madat krna, unka sukh dukh batna ek Prakar se junoon sa ban gaya hai mere liye.

Over the past 15-20 years, I’ve brought many positive changes to our country. Some of them include getting electricity in Dusrahera ( a village in Rajasthan), getting rid of the disturbances due to ‘Night Chaupati’, continuing the ‘Chipko Aandolan’ to save trees, standing by the farmers due to drought, and many more!

You know, I’ve also co-authored a book titled ‘Bastar Tiger’ with my wife, Preeti Upadhyay. The book is an ode to Mahendra Karma, popularly known as Bastar Tiger. Mahendra Ji was a renowned tribal leader. In 2005, he played a vital role in coordinating the Salva Judum movement against the Naxalites in Chattisgarh. Unfortunately, he and 27 other Congress leaders were killed by the Naxalites in Darbha Valley while returning from the Parivartan rally.

Our country still has a long way to go. Currently, some of the alarming problems are the income index, happiness index, health index, unemployment and many more. I’ve been known to stand alone to raise my voice against societal issues. And I will continue to do so!

As for the youth, my message is the same as I convey to my children. Be a good and conscious citizen. Be someone who cares about living beings and the environment.

And to conclude, RTI karo, problems solve karo!

551 RTIs! And that too in a day! It’s unbelievable! Isn’t Kunal an apt example of someone who believes in solving a problem rather than cribbing about it.
