Isn’t dad’s support vital for every child?

Updated: May 6, 2023

"I grew up in a middle-class family in Lucknow. And unlike an average middle-class family, I was lucky. Usually, log acting line ko galat mante hai. But I had my dad’s support regarding my career choice in filmmaking. Isn’t it vital support for every child?

Anyways, in 2005 I joined a summer vacation workshop at Bharatendu Natya Academy. After that, I enrolled in BMS College, Lucknow. The school is popular for making short films. So, I started as an actor from there and went on to act in around 100 plays all over India. It was a great learning experience in the creative field.

Then I went to SRFTI, Kolkata, to pursue a workshop in direction. The workshop allowed me to move to Mumbai and scale my filmmaking career. I still remember my first day in Mumbai. I was around some of my seniors from SRFTI. When I shared my plan for filmmaking, they laughed at me. They were like, ‘Yaar itni jaldi kam nahi milta hai Mumbai me. Kam se kam 6-7 mahine struggle krna parta hai.’ I didn't have the budget to survive that long in Mumbai without any work. But I was optimistic about getting a job. And you won’t believe me, I came to Mumbai on 18th February 2012 and started working on 19th February 2012.

So, to the ones dreading the struggle in Mumbai, apna approach humesa positive rakhna aur apne skill pe bharosha rakhna. You will attract positive vibes and good work.

Talking about my career, I worked in direction for around 7-8 months. But direction me jada paise nahi the. And surviving in Mumbai, you know how expensive it can be. Financial stability was important. So, I switched to casting. And worked in the industry for around seven years and co-founded my production house 'All Time Filmy Production' with my friend and co-founder Arwa Kothawala.

By the grace of God, everything has worked fine. Recently, we released a short film on HumaraMovie’s YouTube channel. The movie is titled ‘No Broker’. Ye film bachelors pe focused hai. You know how ‘Makan maliks’ are sceptical about renting flats to bachelors? It’s a big headache to find rooms. Especially in the metro cities. To lessen the burden, they hire brokers and sometimes get cheated by them. The movie is about one such ‘Paitra’ used by brokers to cheat tenants. It’s an entertaining movie. You’ll surely enjoy watching it. Do let me know your views about it.

We’re glad to partner with Humara Movie. They release a film every week. And we feature the story of someone behind the film. After all, everyone has a story.
