It felt great to be exposed to the artistic world at such an early age.

Updated: Dec 9, 2023

I pursued my secondary education at The Assam Valley School, Assam. One of the best facets of my schooling was its attention to co-curricular activities. They focused a lot on theatre, music, debates etc. So, I used to perform extensively as an actor and director during my school days. Prominent artists from the theatre and film industry used to visit our school to judge and direct our school plays. It felt great to be exposed to the artistic world at such an early age.

After my twelfth, I took admission in Ramjas College, Delhi University. The graduation years added wings to explore more in the field of arts. I watched plays, international cinemas and films shot on the university campus. Moreover, my college was the perfect place to connect with people from different socio-cultural backgrounds through societies like theatre, filmmaking & photography, etc. I started my journey in screenwriting from the first year of college.

After graduation, I earned a diploma in Film Television and Digital Video Production from XIC, Bombay. Due to COVID-19, physical interactions were minimal during the course. Still, we got a great opportunity to network with like minded people (with whom i frequently collaborate) and learn from a stellar faculty. Meanwhile, I also worked with Kadambari Creations, a production house based in Gauhati where we worked on numerous short films. My initial work at the studio, helmed by reputed filmmaker - Samujjal Kashyap, gave me great exposure to the craft and nuances of film making, after which I moved to Mumbai.

Mumbai was different! It felt as if I was restarting my artistic struggle from the beginning. The PG I stayed in didn’t add any balm to my effort. The PG owner was a strange man. He used to drink incessantly and party with girls less than half his age. But he always seemed to have a reason for everything he did, deeply philosophical and unapologetic as he was. My life was totally uncertain during those times. And to stay with someone with such a carefree lifestyle made the environment even more strenuous for me. Eventually, I managed to overcome this phase but could never forget about my days with the PG owner. And hence, I decided to solidify this memory through a piece of fiction - turning it into a short film with an underlying spiritual message.

The film is called, 'Out of Place' and is about two men - distraught with life in their own specific ways - who are joined by an unlikely lady flatmate. She is an NRI backpacker who, apart from enchanting the men with her charm, also gifts them with a renewed zest for life. The film has released on the Humara Movie . Do give it a watch for a warm and wholesome experience!

We’re glad to partner with Humara Movie. They release a film every week. And we feature the story of someone behind the film. After all, everyone has a story.
