It’s easy to get carried away by the fame bought by art’s success.

Updated: Apr 30, 2023

In a society where stereotypes become the guiding light for people’s actions, a girl painting giant walls is definitely a scene to stop & stare at. But being unfettered from prejudiced notions & doing something of my choice instills immense joy in me.

At 16, I had already tasted fame by being the 1st Runner of Miss Teen India International. But I did not want to revel in the sudden limelight I got exposed to. Unaffected by fame, I pursued my education & became a qualified psychologist. If you are looking for the door through which art entered my life, then I must say it was always there with me. I have never attained any form of art training. I am a self-taught artist. Experiencing art myself and developing my own techniques was crucial for me.

Travelling is my muse and has been my biggest inspiration. It helps me expand the domain of my ideas and triggers my emotions. With the passage of time, I was enticed towards street art. That happened to polish my identity. I was enthralled to connect with such a large audience and was grateful enough to be able to bridge the gap between me and my audience.

Gradually, doors to brighter days began opening. I got an offer to paint a restaurant wall of size 52ft by 7ft by an art director, the biggest painting I have ever done. Following that, my work got recognition and appreciation. The feeling of a small-scale celebrity crept in again, but I enjoyed every bit of it this time.

Art handed me some commendable opportunities which I feel privileged to have got. I have painted live for Sula Fest, Ballard Estate Festival and GVK International Airport. My artwork was even a part of the biggest fan event by marvel for Endgame. Art went on to fetch me some positions which are looked up to. For two years, I have been a consultant to Asian Paints and am the only Indian Brand ambassador for an Italian Company, Novacolour.

I am happy to have been able to create a difference through it. I’ve realised that art is a gift not everyone has. So the need of the hour is to make art affordable for common men so that the full potential of it can be harnessed.

We loved Kanak’s point about fame related to artists. Doesn’t it make a huge difference between successful and unsuccessful artists?
