It takes effort to seem effortless

Updated: Apr 30, 2023

It takes effort to seem effortless.’ Have you heard this quote? I firmly believe in it.

Growing up, my family always focused on having a secure life and getting a stable job. So, I pursued an MBA in Finance and got a job at Wipro. But, over a while, I realised I didn’t have job satisfaction. Since childhood, I have loved to do creative work. Bachpan se, I used to like dancing, singing, and drawing.

While working at Wipro, fortunately, I came across a requirement for an Assistant Director in a Marathi Production House. The project never materialised. But, I did get a chance to work as an AD. It gave me an overview of all the aspects of filmmaking. I hardly used to sleep for four hours at that time. But it was worth it. And the experience gave me the confidence to quit my job and pursue filmmaking full-time.

I moved to Mumbai with my savings. But it didn’t start well. Unfortunately, ushi time pe, I had a major break up. It was a long-term relationship. Therefore, it impacted me badly. It was difficult to survive all alone in Mumbai. And professionally also faced a lot of rejections at the same time.

But I kept hanging in. And slowly, things started getting better. My latest release as a casting director is Mirzapur 2. And there are some more significant projects in the pipeline.

I’ve also released a short film on @humaramovie @youtubeindia channel. It’s titled ‘Aashu Ke Sweetu Ka Laddu’.

I got the story idea during the pandemic. I was newly married then. Married life was a completely new world to me. I had a lot of new experiences as a wife. The film is about the conflicts between newly married couples. Whether it’s a love marriage or arranged, but since aap kabhi sath me rahe nhi ho to aapke lifestyle me fark to padta hai. Usually, aapko ek dusre ki aadaton ke bare me theoretically pata hota hai. But practically, jeena is an entirely different experience. So I wanted to show this side to the world.

I wrote it during the pandemic. After the pandemic, I worked on collecting resources to materialise the short film.

From my experience in the film industry, all I can say is that any form of art looks easy from the audience's perspective. It seems effortless to us. But someone has wisely said, 'it takes effort to seem effortless.’ And it’s so true!

During the initial days, I thought I’d succeed easily. But when I got serious about it, I understood, it’s a craft you must learn, practice and then become the master of it. And it takes time and consistent hard work.

So, keep hustling!
