I’m from Coimbatore and recently shifted to Bangalore to pursue Post Graduation. Along with studying, I work the night shift on weekdays.
Recently, on May 4th, I booked a Rapido bike to commute to my office. While riding the bike, I experienced unbearable stomach pain. I asked Praveen, the Rapido driver, to stop at a medical shop.
It had started raining too! By the time we reached a medical shop, I burst into tears due to the pain. Looking into the emergency, the salesperson at the medical shop called a doctor for proper treatment. Dr Misba opened her clinic just to treat me. She prescribed the medication, and I took them in the medical shop. The pain subsided, and we decided to leave the shop. While leaving, the salesperson gave me an umbrella as it was literally pouring outside.
By this time, Praveen had cancelled our ride and didn’t accept new rides. He dropped me home safely and didn’t even ask for money. The strange part was he knew Hindi, and I conversed in Tamil. Still, we communicated well, given the emergency.
I reimbursed him later, and a kind anonymous guy also sent him some money as a token of gratitude. Later, he told me that Rapido also gifted him based on my feedback as a token of appreciation.
We often hear horrible stories of riders’ unpleasant experiences with cab and bike drivers. And these are unacceptable. But let’s not generalise. Let’s not generalise a gender based on a few monsters. It’s more about one person at a time. And it’s more the positivity and kindness around us.
And for Praveen, Dr. Misba and the salesperson at the medical shop, you guys make our planet special to live in. I’ll be forever grateful to you all.
