From a young age, I loved singing. As I grew, my passion for music blossomed. But, for graduation, I was in two minds. Although music was my passion, I also had an interest in journalism. After pouring my mind a lot, I decided to go for Journalism. The day I was going for admission, I met with an accident. A Bolero had hit me, and my scooty was damaged. Thankfully, I didn’t get any severe injuries. But, somehow, I felt that the sudden accident was a sign. A sign that conveyed that I was moving in the wrong direction. So, I decided to switch my career toward a Bachelor's in Music and pursued a Master's in Classical Singing. Surprisingly, this decision led to a job I hadn't dreamed of. Destiny had its plan, and I found my true path.
During my master's, my mother encouraged me to audition at a Radio Station. To my delight, the audition went exceptionally well, and it sparked my newfound interest in becoming an RJ. Their voice and the style of work fascinated me. And upon enquiring, I found that they were hiring an RJ intern. I applied and thankfully got selected. But then COVID came. So, I was instructed to stay home and wait for further updates. After some time, they cancelled my internship. In between, I applied for another internship in Jodhpur and got selected. It was a turning point in my career. I worked under the mentorship of RJ Rex Sir and learned things about how a radio station works and what it means to be an RJ. And after three months of hard work, I became an RJ and did my first show for the My Fm 94.3 Gwalior Station.
Just when I was about to join the office, the deadly second wave of COVID came. Thankfully, this time I got work from home opportunity. But it was a considerable challenge. Because RJ can’t work on the usual work-from-home set-up, we work on software that works on extreme wifi frequency, and some other technical things must be taken care of. Moreover, I was a new RJ without prior experience, so the workload or working hours multiplied. But the kind of situation we were going through, it was all worth it. After the second wave came into control, I did my first live show on 1st July 2021. It felt surreal! And since then, I haven’t looked behind. Within 24 days, I was promoted and transferred to My FM Jaipur, my hometown. Due to my expertise in social media, I was also awarded as the ‘HERO of My FM’. The award is the highest recognition within the organisation. As a newcomer, it meant a lot.
Hosting the red carpet event of the Indian Television Awards (ITA) was one of my best experiences. I got to speak with some of the prominent celebrities in the industry.
Those moments were surreal. Like when I was talking with Rohit Shetty, Neena Gupta was standing behind, waiting for her turn to throw some lights upon the glamorous night. It was indeed a night to remember for a long time. And so, my journey as an RJ continues, embracing every twist and turn with passion and perseverance. I know I still have a long way to go!
