Our love is stronger than the scratches I’ve left on his face.

Updated: Apr 30, 2023

I am someone who loves being her and most importantly with people she loves. I recently got engaged to someone I adore. That’s enough of my introduction, today it’s about my brother. “The story starts in Chennai in 1993. Being born to an Army man was itself a blessing & the icing on the cake was to have two elder brothers. There are some advantages of being the youngest sibling, I never got a no for anything in the world, and there is nothing as such in my memoir. My eldest brother is 8 years older than me, & among many of my childhood stories, one that my mother told me that in my young days, I had scratched his face with my hand multiple times & he never complained once albeit he was not that mature and it must be painful. The childhood marks given by me to him are still on his face. Years went by, and he left for Australia, the country my parents & I had seen on movies and global maps & knew nothing about. It was 2007, and he told everyone that life is amazing and he has everything, but we were unaware of the hurdles an immigrant faces. There was only Skype at that time, and in those times, data charges were exorbitant. It was difficult for us, but we used to have a once-in-a-week conversation. He never made us realise that he is facing a tough time there and a money crunch over it. We used to receive his photographs every 3 months which used to be a sigh of relief for everyone. Three years went by, and I kept bragging that my brother is having a king-size life there. During these years, he helped our parents to build their dream house, financed her sibling's education and most importantly bought me a two-wheeler. I still cannot believe how he did it, but he definitely sacrificed his dreams and saved earnings to fulfil his family’s desire. My father went to Australia in 2011 for the first time, and it was the best trip for him to date. Now my brother is married with two kids, but I still see that Sunny of 2007 in him; he hasn’t changed. He is still a giver; he made sure that we have everything. Having a brother, son, husband & father like him is a blessing. I am going to start a new chapter in life soon; I wish I could be 1% of what he is as a person.

Meenakshi’s love for her brother is so adorable. Isn’t it a lovely sibling story?
