Theatre is a good addiction!

Updated: Apr 30, 2023

I was recovering from dengue in my hometown when I got a call from #SubhashKapoor Sir’s assistant director. And it wasn’t for an acting role. They needed a ‘Haryanvi Dialect Acting Coach’ for Ronit bose roy . Someone had referred me for the dialect coach. Within ten days, I returned to Mumbai and meet Shubhash sir for the first time. The meeting was surreal, and we joined hands for the work. Around the third meeting, Shubhash sir said, ‘Tere liye ek role hai. Karega? Jada bada role nhi hai, lekin acha role hai.’

I was like, ‘Bilkul! Bilkul karunga na sir.’ It was my first project, so I wasn’t bothered about the duration of my role. Moreover, I was a fan of his work and wanted to work with him. So, I didn’t ask for any details of the role. Just said yes to him instantly.

Later, I asked him about my role. He said that I had to play Ronit Roy’s younger brother. I was happy. And that’s how I worked as an actor and a dialect coach in Guddu Rangela . I had a great experience working with Ronit bhai. I still call him ‘Bhaisahab’, and he calls me ‘Chottey’.

As for my acting experience, I’m a big believer in theatre. You know, when I came to Delhi for theatre, I planned to do it for six months or a year at max and then move to Mumbai. But you won’t believe I did it for five years. As an actor, I explored myself a lot in the theatre. How these five years flew by, I didn’t realise.

And to all the aspiring actors, let me tell you, ‘Theatre is a good addiction!’ It has a huge potential to groove the artist inside you. So, make sure to consider it as a vital ladder in your acting career.

Life in Mumbai is amazing! I always feel grateful for having family and friends who’re always available for me, whether it be emotionally or financially. Wherever I’m today is because of their unconditional support.

My upcoming movie is Ahassas . The moment I read the script, I said yes to the movie. As an actor, I love to play those characters who are poles apart from my natural personality.

It was an emotional journey for Ahassas's team. The movie is kind of emotionally exhausting and inspired by the real-life experiences of Vivek Deswal. And there were quite a few moments when Vivek forgot to say cut while directing the scenes. So we had to keep the set chilled between shots and after pack up. Vivek has written and directed the movie amazingly. Do watch the movie on humara movie's Youtube channel. I’m sure you’ll like it.

And I must say, ‘Ye Ahassas bohot khas hai mere liye’.

We’re glad to partner with Humara Movie. They release a film every week. And we feature story of someone behind the film. After all, everyone has a story.
