Sightless Swings: Unveiling the Story of Triumph in Blind Cricket

When I was eleven, I got hurt playing cricket. A wire piece went into my right eye. It was horrible, and I lost sight of that eye. My left eye was okay, but because of the injury, it had more pressure. Life got tough.

I kept attending a regular school. But my classmates treated me differently and made fun of me. It affected my grades. So my teacher suggested I go to a school for blind students. That's when Kumar Naik enrolled me at Asha Kiran Blind School in Chikkamagalur.

This school was different. It turned out to be the start of my cricket journey. I learned about blind cricket from my friends and seniors. It took me a couple of months to get the hang of it. My school coach said, "If you play well, you can even play National or International cricket someday."

I was good at running too! But my coach, Gopal Sir, told me to focus on cricket because I was better at it. So, I practiced a lot, from morning to evening, with help from my seniors.

All the hard work paid off! I started playing blind cricket for the state, then the National level, and even internationally. CABI (Cricket Association for the Blind in India) has been incredible, helping us with facilities to represent India. But it's not always easy. Blind cricket doesn't get as much respect as it should. We still struggle to find sponsors and stable jobs after retiring. Of course, the rules are easier, but the challenges for visually impaired players are real.

Still, I'm proud to represent my country. You know, recently, we won the Triangular Cricket Series for the Blind in UAE.

We’re glad to partner with Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) and share stories "From Darkness to Glory"
