The story behind the origin and growth of The Champa Tree is surreal.

It was in the year 1997 when I recited this wonderful verse by Rabindranath Tagore - The Champa Flower. How much I had to practice to perfect the art of recital. Now, I look back and feel that my fascination for the Frangipani (Champa) plant grew and became stronger during all these years.

My favourite fragrance of Champa became my pregnancy nausea during my pregnancy. Also, during this time, I read a lot of Rabindranath Tagore. And from one of his beautiful poems, The Champa flower - The Champa Tree conceived in May 2014, around the same time as my son’s birth. The Champa Tree is about motherhood, parenting, baby, and child care. You can tickle your funny bone with some parenting humour or read emotional pieces which most of us (at some point) would relate to.

But above everything else, The Champa Tree is a safe place where all mothers and fathers can find answers to the questions they think are too “silly” to ask out loud. If you don’t find the answer to a question that has bothered you, feel free to reach out, as this is free of all judgement.

Our vision is to enable mums and dads to join the brand and share their experiences with other parents. The thing is that the Indian mindset always downplays motherhood. The Champa Tree is an initiative to acknowledge and reward a mother's intuition and persistence.

Before the quarantine/lockdown, the kids were too preoccupied with the school’s extracurricular activities, tuition, etc. Whatever little (free) time they had would go into playing or chit-chatting with their friends. There was hardly any time for the basic life skills education every child should be equipped with. The present quarantine is a great opportunity for any parent to introduce life skills education to the child.

According to WHO, “Life skills are abilities that facilitate an individual's physical, mental and emotional well-being. How often did we not shout at our child for the missing textbook, crumpled uniform, mismatched socks and playthings hidden in unusual places? For the child not to miss the bus or be late to school, we parents pitch in to set things right. Now you have the child and also the time. Instil in him/her the concept of life skills that will help in making your child organised and disciplined.

Before I end, there is one more fascinating story about the splendour of Champa linked with Lord Krishna. As per Hindu Mythology, honeybees are believed to not sit on the Champa flower because Lord Krishna has instructed them not to. The blog and my son required my utmost attention in the initial years. Now I am just watching them both grow tremendously.”
