Two unheard stories of my life.

Like many superstars, two cities have majorly contributed to scripting some of the golden moments of my life’s story. Can you guess the cities? Yes, I’m talking about Delhi and Mumbai. So, let me share an unheard story from each city.

Delhi

My acting journey also started similar to my idol, Amitabh Bachan Sir. Now, I guess you know where it began. ‘Kirori Mal College, Delhi University.’ But, before that, I aspired to be a cricketer. It didn’t go well. ‘Mai shidha sada Bengali bacha tha aur Delhi k bande aggressive.’ I felt timid and bullied in that group. So I made a switch. I shifted to acting and joined the theatre society in K.M.C. It turned out to be a bright foundation for my acting career.

And, moving forward, I made some good friends in Delhi and partied a lot. Sach batau to dosto ke paiso se bohot party ki hai. Kitno ke to paise bhi nhi lautaya hu. But, chalta hai. We have that kind of equation now.

You know, I used to smoke a lot. ‘Lekin tab paise jada nahi hote the.’ So, you won’t believe it, I smoked the cigarette filter too! Wahi part jishe log sutta fookne ke baad fek dete the. Gazb nasha tha. Looking back, I feel amused recalling those moments. Like, smoking filter! Really?

Ohh! I forgot to mention my first acting experience. I played a character in a Ramayan play. It didn’t go well. Or you can say I was too harsh in critiquing myself. But I’m glad to have come a long way from the play.

Mumbai

Mumbai! What should I share about Mumbai? Chalo ek intresting kahani batata hu Mumbai ki.

You know, in the beginning, I used to do a job. It fetched me 9k. 4,000 toh rent dena parta tha, baki k 5,000 me mahina chalana parta tha. And before Durga Puja, my father was ardent about me visiting my hometown to celebrate. Kya karta? Job me lambi chutti bhi nahi milti aur baba ka bhi baat man na tha. So, I made a friend to work in my place and took one month break.

When I returned, the manager said he had transferred my job to my friend — Ab toh mai fas gya. Ek taraf jigri yaar aur dusre taraf kharcha chalane ka bukhaar. Kisi ek se compromise bhi nahi kar sakta tha. So, we decided to do the job mutually and share the salary equally. We did the job for like three months. It was a crazy experience and something to remember for life.

Growing up, I used to copy Bachchan sir a lot. People still call me ‘Bachchan’. I still have a t-shirt printed with Small B, Medium B and Big B. And the best part is, I’m working with the legend in ‘Section 84’. It feels surreal to share the screen with him. The Bachchan mania is peaking at another level now!

And, to sum up, always remember, ‘Tu beer hai.’ I guess you got the point!

The job sharing story is unbelievable. We feel it’s the power of true friendship.

Abhishek must be lucky to have one by his side.
