When I finally met Shah Rukh Khan

Updated: Apr 8, 2023

I am a true Delhite, an HR professional and nature lover. I came from a lower middle-class family and grew up watching Bollywood movies. In the early 90’s, when there was a craze for Salman, Aamir and Akshay, one ordinary guy from Delhi entered Bollywood and broke the barriers of stereotypes.

I got my first chance to see him on 70 mm when DDLJ was released. The movie changed not only Bollywood but also me. As I was growing, my love and admiration for Shah Rukh Khan also increased. SRK motivated and changed me as a person, during the struggling days of my life. I used to read his real-life stories for inspiration. People used to make fun of me for behaving like an immature kid when it was about SRK. But I don’t mind and don't care about that.

I got several chances in my life to meet him, but in 2019 on his birthday, I got to talk to him. I also played an audio clip from my son Arjun who was seven years old. That audio clip was “Papa Shah Rukh Tauji ko meri taraf se happy birthday bol Dena. Happy Birthday Shah Rukh Tauji, I Love you" - that video got viral and I received thousands of congratulatory messages worldwide.

It was the best moment for me till Jan 11, 2023, night came.

On 10th Jan, we learned that SRK will be in Delhi on 11 Jan. One of my friends Jatin messaged Pooja Ma’am (SRK’s Manager), and she messaged back to come to Auto EXPO. We didn’t have the VIP Pass to enter and meet him, so we decided to meet him directly at the hotel where he was supposed to come at around 1 am. I, Jatin, and Pawan reached the hotel at midnight.

Around 1 am, a fleet of cars with BMW in the centre entered the hotel, we hurriedly messaged Pooja ma’am that ‘we are in the hotel and want to meet SRK’, to which she replied, ‘I asked you to come to Auto EXPO tomorrow’. We messaged back that ‘without VIP passes, we will not be able to enter’, but she didn’t reply. We again dropped a message that ‘no worries ma’am, we will wait till morning, whenever he has time we can meet him’, but that message remains unread. We waited there for more than an hour and decided to leave. We drove back a few km when a notification comes on Jatin’s phone ‘Ravi (SRK’s personal bodyguard) will call you sometime, let's meet him on the 12th floor’ and then got the call from Ravi Dada ‘Kahan ho tum log, 12th-floor par aa jao’.

While we drove back, I was getting numb, unable to believe that I would meet him in person. We reached the 12th floor of the hotel and met with Ravi Dada, he said to wait there, and that he will be there in 2 minutes.

And then Shah Rukh Khan comes out from his room. He approached me and said, ‘Sorry yaar aap logo ko meri wajah se wait Karna pada’, and I was like seriously. Then like a Delhi guy, he started chit-chatting with us, asking about our family. He gave autographs for my son Arjun and daughter Aarna. We hugged, he patted my back, and then he said, ‘Chalo, let's click some pictures’. He asked Pooja, ma’am, to click some pictures.

The feeling was unforgettable; life's best moments sometimes come without an announcement. Life is unpredictable.

What a fan moment it must have been for Raghuveer. A lot of us aren’t lucky like him.
